Cookie policy
What this website stores on your device, why, and how to change your choice.
The short version
This website does not need cookies to work. The only thing we would like to use is Google Analytics, which tells us how many people visit the site and which pages they read.
Analytics is off until you accept it. If you reject it, or ignore the banner, nothing is set. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.
What gets stored
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
ctc-cookie-consent | This website | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so we do not ask again on every page. It is kept in your browser’s local storage rather than as a cookie, and is never sent to us or anyone else. | 6 months |
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another, so a return visit is not counted as a new person. | 2 years |
_ga_J7KNB4JJT6 | Google Analytics | Keeps track of a single visit to the site. | 2 years |
The consent record is stored whichever option you choose, because it is the only way to remember your answer. The two Google Analytics entries are set only if you accept.
What we use the analytics for
We look at visitor numbers, which pages get read, roughly which part of the world people are in, and whether they are on a phone or a computer. We use it to judge whether the site is doing its job. We do not use it to identify individuals, and there are no advertising or marketing cookies on this site.
Google Analytics is run by Google, and the data is processed on their systems. Their own terms are set out in the Google Privacy Policy.
Everything else comes from this website
Fonts, images, stylesheets and scripts are all served from this website rather than from another company’s servers. There are no embedded maps, videos, social media widgets or advertising scripts. Apart from Google Analytics, and only if you accept it, visiting a page here does not tell any other organisation that you were on this site.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page to accept or reject analytics again. Rejecting also clears any Google Analytics cookies already set in your browser.
You can delete cookies and site data yourself through your browser settings. Doing so will also clear the record of your choice, so the banner will appear again on your next visit.
